The University of Bayreuth (UBT) is an internationally operating and cooperating research university. With a basis in disciplinary research, the university sets itself scientific goals beyond the boundaries of particular disciplines and joins these together in focal areas, where interdisciplinary and problem-solving approaches in research are typical. The UBT enjoys partnerships with over 40 universities and research institutions across the globe, and is particularly active in European mobility programmes.
The Centre of Mathematics & Science Education (Z-MNU) provides school-relevant training scenarios for pre-service teachers in mathematics and science. Furthermore, in-service teacher training courses are offered for qualified teachers. The centre was founded to optimize the education and enhancement of teacher training. It is unique within the 10 universities of the German state Bavaria. The federal states are the authorities responsible for the federally organized school system.
