The Institution
The University of Bayreuth (UBT) is an internationally operating and cooperating research university. With a basis in disciplinary research, the university sets itself scientific goals beyond the boundaries of particular disciplines and joins these together in focal areas, where interdisciplinary and problem-solving approaches in research are typical. The UBT enjoys partnerships with over 40 universities and research institutions across the globe, and is particularly active in European mobility programmes.
Working Group
The Centre of Mathematics & Science Education (Z-MNU) provides school-relevant training scenarios for pre-service teachers in mathematics and science. Furthermore, in-service teacher training courses are offered for qualified teachers. The centre was founded to optimize the education and enhancement of teacher training. It is unique within the 10 universities of the German state Bavaria. The federal states are the authorities responsible for the federally organized school system.
Involvement in PATHWAY
The University of Bayreuth is coordinating the PATHWAY project, the PATHWAY office is located here (WP1). The UBT team is responsible for the selection of best practices in teachers training (WP3) and ist involved in the development of standard-based approaches to Teaching Science as Inquiry (WP2).

- Ulla Diener: PATHWAY Office - support of the Coordinator in Project Management tasks and Communication with the Partners on administrative issues.
- Sarah Schmid: PhD on a best practice example for Inquiry Based Science Teaching, contribution to the work in WP3.
- Olivia Dieser: PhD in Didactics of Biology, contribution to the work in WP5
