The Institution
The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) was founded in March 2000. CERTH is a non-profit organization that directly reports to the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT), of the Greek Ministry of Development. The mission of CERTH is to carry out fundamental and applied research with emphasis on development of novel products and services of industrial, economic and social importance. The Informatics and Telematics Institute (ITI) was founded in 1998. Since March 2000 it is a founding member of the Centre of Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH).
Working Group
In PATHWAY Project, the ITI’s Research Unit on Advanced Digital Systems and Services for Education and Learning (ASK) is participating. ASK has a long history on European and World-wide Research and Development activities in the area of Technology-enhanced Learning (TeL). The main achievements of ASK during the past twelve (12) years, in TeL can be summarized as follows: (a) 42 R&D projects (19 EC funded Projects, 12 National Projects, 11 Industrial Contracts) attracting total external funding at the range of 6 M€ (b) more than 255 scientific publications in book chapters, journals and conference proceedings, with at least 1218 known citations (with h-index 20) and six (6) Best Paper Awards in International Conferences on Advanced Learning Technologies (August 2001, August 2004, July 2007, July 2009, November 2010, July 2011), (c) scientific world leadership in the field of Technology-enhanced Learning, with Co-Editorship of the Educational Technology and Society Journal, (one of the top research journals in the field based on its impact factor) and Co-Chairship of major international conferences on Learning Technologies, such as IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies and (d) active participation in European and International Centers of Excellency such as, IEEE Computer Society Learning Technologies Technical Committee, CEN/ISSS Learning Technologies Workshop and the IMS Global Learning Consortium, Inc.
Involvement in PATHWAY
CERTH mainly participates in WP4 (Developing a Community of Practitioners of Inquiry) by providing a tool for characterizing with educational metadata IBSE activities and educational resources following the IEEE LOM Standard (namely PATHWAY ASK-LOM-AT), as well as a tool for designing IBSE activities in a common understandable and machine-readable format following the IMS Learning Design Specification (namely PATHWAY ASK-LDT). In addition, CERTH participates in WP2 (Towards a Standards-Based Approach to Teaching science by Inquiry), WP3 (Best Practices of Inquiry Based Science Education Methods and Activities) and WP6 (Clustering and Networking)
