HUB Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (DE)
The Institution
Founded in 1810 according to the concept which Wilhelm von Humboldt had put forward, Humboldt-Universität was the "mother of all modern universities". It lives up to its history as a reform-orientated institution by planting innovative ideas into study, research and structure.Since its foundation, Humboldt-Universität has been a “universitas litterarum” embracing all major scientific disciplines in the humanities and arts, social and cultural sciences, mathematics and natural sciences, medicine and agricultural sciences.
Working Group
Research in chemistry education at the Humboldt-Universität focuses on the empirical analysis of scientific inquiry, which is affiliated with research and development in assessment. The aim is to develop items and methods that assess the skills, knowledge and competencies expected of a successful problem solver. Video analyses, computer based assessments and complex »paper & pencil« tasks series, combined with high end mathematical methods, permit predictions for learning progression models and effective strategies in teaching and learning chemistry.
Involvement in PATHWAY
The HUB team is mainly involved in WP 5: Training Activities – Diffusion of IBSE across Europe and in WP 3: Best Practices of Inquiry Based Science Education: Methods and Activities.
